How does Anabrez (Anastrozole) work?
anabrez 1mg reversibly inhibits the enzyme responsible for conversion of testosterone to estrogen. It works by binding to the enzyme and making it unable to carry out its usual functions.
Many breast cancers are stimulated to grow by the estrogen and progesterone. Such cancers can be treated with drugs that block the effects of these hormones. In postmenopausal women, estrogen is mainly produced through conversion of androgens (sex hormones produced by the adrenal glands) to estrogens. This process is called aromatisation and takes place mainly in the fatty tissues, muscles and the skin, and requires aromatase enzyme. Anastrozole blocks the process of aromatisation this way lowering the amount of estrogen in the body. In advanced breast cancer the cancerous cells may grow more slowly or stop growing completely.
